Quick Start Guide

Get started using Webspiration® to tap creativity, organize ideas and solve problems.

The following quick start will show you how in less than 20 steps.

Brainstorm and capture ideas

Use symbols and links to visually represent concepts and connections in Diagram View.

MindMaps empower DIKW visual thinking:

We will explore yet another futures technique--“mind mapping.”

Mind mapping is a popular technique that employs diagramming to express relationships among words, ideas, and other elements using a central key word or idea. This approach towards brainstorming encourages users to identify and connect ideas without a tendency to begin within a particular conceptual framework.

General Information

A:

In Diagram View, you can create bubble diagrams, flow charts, concept maps, process flows and other visual representations of your thoughts. In Outline View, you can take notes, organize work and expand ideas fluidly to develop your writing into plans, study guides, papers, reports, and other more comprehensive documents. The two views are integrated, so you can easily switch back and forth without losing any of your ideas. You can work on your own or collaborate with others, co-creating visual diagrams and written documents.

A:

Webspiration can be used by anyone, but is mostly used by business and education professionals and college students. Business and education professionals use Webspiration to brainstorm, diagram, outline, plan, organize, and write, while working independently or collaborating with others. College students use Webspiration to organize materials, study, write papers and work in project groups to pool and create knowledge together.

A:

Though Inspiration for the desktop and Webspiration share some similar tools and functionality, they are two different products. However, if you are working in Webspiration, you can upload to or download from Inspiration. See Inspiration Desktop Files in Help for more information.

A:

Webspiration automatically updates so you always have the latest version when you log on through myWebspiration.com.

About Documents

A:

Yes. Access to the Webspiration server is strictly controlled via firewall. Your documents will remain private unless you invite collaborators and/or viewers. Robots and spiders can't get to your documents, so they won't appear in any search index.

A:

You may create as many documents as you like.

A:

You may change a document as often and as many times as you like.

A:

Your documents are available as long as you have a current Webspiration account.

A:

You can turn spell check on and off by choosing Spell Check from the Tools menu.

Collaboration/Sharing

A:

With Webspiration, there are a number of ways to share your work. See the Working Collaboratively section in Help to find out how.

A:

There is no limit to the number of people that can share a document.

A:

When multiple users are working on the same document, Webspiration automatically switches them between active and inactive states, so that their edits do not conflict. See the Multiple Users Editing the Same Document topic in Help to find out how this works.

A:

Although the capacity is technically unlimited, for connectivity reasons we recommend that you don’t try more than 25 at a time, and less is probably better.

A:

As an owner or a collaborator, you can change user roles, including the ability as a collaborator to change your own. See Sharing in Help to find out how.

A:

Invitations are sent via email, so the invitation might have been (incorrectly) flagged as spam. Please ask the invitee to check their junk mail folder. For users who already have an account, even if the invitation was not received, the document is still shared and will display in the Open Document dialog when the Shared With Me radio button is clicked.

For new users, you can either re-invite them or have them go directly to myWebspiration.com and sign up for an account. After their account is created, they'll be able to see the shared documents the same way as described above.

A:

Yes. You can roll your document back to a past revision. This copies the revision to the top of the history listing, leaving all other histories intact. Choose Rollback while in the Select Document History dialog or click the Rollback button on the main toolbar while viewing an older revision.

A:

Yes. The Chat function makes the collaborative capability of Webspiration even more powerful. When multiple users are working on a Webspiration document, they can use Chat to discuss their work while actively editing or viewing the document.

Read more about using Chat in Help.

Connecting

A:

Are you able to connect to other web sites? If not, it might be your Internet connection that's the issue, in which case you should contact your ISP, or perhaps wait a few minutes and see if the problem clears up on its own. If you can connect to other web sites but not myWebspiration.com, please email us at techsupport@inspiration.com and we'll do our best to help resolve the issue.

A:

If you lose your connection for some reason, you can continue to edit offline. When you reconnect, you will have the option to discard your changes or to save a copy under a different name (you cannot choose to have your changes override the server's version).

A:

You need a standard web browser and Adobe® Flash® Player 9 to use Webspiration. Mozilla® Firefox® is supported on Windows®, Macintosh® and Linux®. Windows Internet Explorer® is supported on Windows. Apple® Safari® is supported on Macintosh. Make sure your computer is set to allow Flash and JavaScript™ to run.

Public Beta Information

A:

Webspiration is currently offered as a free Public Beta. During this time, we're asking our users to provide feedback on Webspiration’s capabilities and functionality, which will continue to evolve throughout the beta period.

Right now, Webspiration is free to use during the Public Beta period. After collecting feedback we'll have a better idea of how to deliver Webspiration as a product that will best meet our customers needs. To date there is no fixed end time for the beta period, but at some point we will be offering Webspiration as a subscription service.
