MNF Planning Workspace

Page history last edited by Dick Saunders 2 days ago

This is a new page in the PBWorks format "Project". I think its a good start.

One of the main uses of PBworks is for simple project management.  Rather than being forced to conform to a particular software's preferences, PBworks lets you build a process that fits your processes.  This template is a basic guide--feel free to modify as you see fit.

Remember, you can create your own customized version of any PBworks template simply by tagging that page with the keyword "template".  From then on, any user of your workspace will be able to use your page template.

Please review the Goals Presentation Minnesota Futurists goals update 11nov.ppt

Please draft your proposal ideas and post them as a NEW PAGE in the FOLDER MNF PLANNING

My example project:

Project Name: An MNF Supermeeting on Small to Midsize Companies

Overview

This project is intended to fill a specific set of user needs.  It is based on the following data:

  • The MedSUDS and NetSUDS events hosted by Matt Noah have not been held since 2006.
  • During the down economy small and midsize companies have hunkered down and concentrated on survival tactics
  • As the economy starts to pick up there is an opportunity to provide exposure to companies who are ready to seek additional investment and business by pursuing good business plans for the future.

Objectives

This project should have the following impact on our organization:

  • Establish MNF as a coordinator for exposure of a broad range of small and midsize enterprises (SME) to the community and investors
  • Increase our visibility and credibility in our community
  • Increase our membership through this increase in visibility and credibility
  • Provide a new forum and new venue for Special Presentations of a Topic Specific Nature
  • Establish a new revenue stream for MNF, through admission charge that, through good attendance, exceeds costs

Team

  • recommended participants for the following roles - David Keenan, Dick Saunders, Duane Carlson, John Dudziak, and other volunteers
  • Investment Forum Organizer
  • Venue Coordinator
  • Speaker Coordinator
  • Event Promotion

Timeline

  • Kickoff: Planning in early December 2009
  • Business Case Complete: early Jan 2010
  • Specification Complete: late Jan 2010
  • Event Planning: consider initial target for late March through May 2010, with possible repeat in 6 to 12 months
  • Celebration: Present status at Annual Meeting in June 2010

Tasks/Milestones

  • Write Business Case (team)
    • Conduct market assessment - if we do it, who will come?
    • Develop venue options
      • consider weekday or weeknight event
      • consider appetizer, beverages
      • consider location and timing - based on candidate, client, and market input
    • Develop speaker candidate list
    • Develop vetting process for speakers
      • Which companies to include based on their business / business plan for the future
      • Preview and review the presentations for best in class outcome
    • Develop pricing and marketing plan
      • consider $25+ per person in advance, more at the door (with discount for MNF members)
      • consider promotion for 8 weeks minimum advance
      • consider sponsorship, exhibitor spots for additional income to offset marketing and other expenses
  • Execute the approved plan
  • Review lessons learned and determine how to proceed
  • Celebrate

Implied in this scoping document is that the prospective invitees are privately held, but seeking public capital for growth. This implies a need to begin with a history and current outlook of the MN and national IPO markets. I'd be willing to research this, as well as participate in any of the planning and execution steps. -- Dick Saunders

Matt Noah's MHTA-NetSuds became our ACCTTS-LLC/MnIPS regional benchmark to equal or exceed when we began experimenting with GlobalBrain "Virtual Team Tactics" in Nov-2002.
Where MHTA = Minnesota High-Tech Association that evolved from Minnesota Software Association (MSA) that was incubated by Minnesota Joint Computing Conference (MJCC) ...

Earl C. Joseph, Sr. reinvested his Future Thought Leadership "social capital" with Dr. Alan Jaisle, Dr. Kurt Linberg and selected MnSCU Community Faculty members to help him realize "Mentorship Vision 2005" ... Its intent was to influence our 2007 World Future Society's Conference in Metro-MN as a launch pad for an inter-regional Eco-Futures Forum!
