Why wasn't this article cited or linked into LJWorld's “Out of the Tap” series distributed on 3-4 September 2006?

It's yet another example of the “tragedy of the commons” where Western Civilization's property rights displace the “prudent person principle” …

It deals with our selected leaders' exercising “common” sense!

Yes! We have met the ENEMY and he is US …

(1971 Earth Day Pogo Cartoon by Walt Kelly)

We're engaged in a watershed war of wits involving “competing” vested interests:

[1] Encroachment (Regional natural resource reserves)

[2] Enforcement (Man-made public policy & rules of law)

    [3] Entitlement (Prevailing “zero-sum game” attitudes) …

These three factors perpetuate an “out of sight - out of mind” smoke screen!

They skew our views of today's current reality. They influence our community's perceptions about INTERdependence on sustainable natual resource usage.

So, we're LESS willing to participate in championing “ALL-WinWin” watershed conservation and pollution prevention practices …

    >>”Once that water is used, it's not going to come back,” said hydrologist Brownie Wilson, who monitors water declines at Kansas University in Lawrence. “But water users don't want to be restricted - they want to be paid to stop.” <<

Early exposure to common chemicals may be programming kids to be fat.

In 2006 scientists at the Harvard School of Public Health reported that the prevalence of obesity in infants under 6 months had risen 73 percent since 1980. “This epidemic of obese 6-month-olds,” as endocrinologist Robert Lustig of the University of California, San Francisco, calls it, poses a problem for conventional explanations of the fattening of America.
